Going into the last round of the day, in Division A we have Jackie McLeod (Eng) and Helen Gipson (Sco), both at 6-1, playing at Board 1. Nigel Richards (MYS) and Simon Gillam (Sco), both at 5-2, play at Board 2. Meanwhile in Division B, Jayne MacKenzie (Eng) and Charles Micallef (MLT) are at 6-1, followed by Mary Doyle (IRL) and Joe Caruana (MLT) (among others) at 5-2. MacKenzie beat Doyle and ends up alone at 7-1. Micallef lost 354-465 to Brid Ni Bhriain (IRL) but remains in second place.

So at the end of day 1, the Maltese are doing well (seven players in the top ten of their division), as are the women (number one in each division).

We have nine rounds to play tomorrow and Monday, so everyone's off to bed as early as they can tonight. Thanks for reading along.
