Congratulations to Nigel Richards (MYS) and Jayne MacKenzie (Eng), Division A and B winners of the 2010 European Open, who thoroughly dominated their respective divisions. We're tearing down the room as I write this, so I'll continue my report in the evening from my hotel room.

Division A

So in the end it was not the most climactic of finishes to a tournament. Nigel Richards (MYS) and Helen Gipson (Sco) had impressively clinched first and second place respectively. Nigel returned from his bike ride at the beginning of the round, and after one last bye finished 27-5 +4,106. Helen beat Nicky Vella-Laurenti (MLT) 396-361 to finish three games back at 24-8 +1,319. Joanne Craig (AUS) and Harshan Lamabadusuriya (Eng) played for third and fourth place, with Joanne winning a 345-342 squeaker and ending up 21-11 +175 to Harshan's 20-12 +1479.

Division B

Jayne MacKenzie (Eng) finished off her triumphant return to tournament Scrabble after a decade's hiatus, finishing 27-5 +2854. Charles Micallef (MLT) was Gibsonized for the last round based on the 861-point spread difference between Charles and Catalin Caba (ROM), so Charles and Jayne played a fun (but rated) game, with Charles winning 456-407.

Catalin Caba (ROM) beat Sue Ball (Eng) 414-333 to finish third 20-12 +676. Brid Ni Bhriain (IRL) beat Nicky Huitson (Eng) 461-334 to finish fourth 19-13 +776.
