Division A

Nigel Richards (MYS) is away celebrating his victory this round. He is awarded a +50 Gibsonization bye, pushing his spread over +4000.

Helen Gipson (Sco) is playing Harshan Lamabadusuriya (Eng) at Board 1. If she wins, she'll be Gibsonized too. If not, they'll play again for second place. The next four places, all competing at this point mainly for fourth-place prize money are Joanne Craig (AUS) (18-11 -132), Theresa Brousson (MLT) (17-12 +445), Craig Beevers (Eng) (16-13 +815) and Vincent Boyle (Sco) (16-13 -160). Joanne plays Vincent, Theresa plays Craig.

Helen beats Harshan by 11 points. Harshan wants to recount, but under WESPA rules, the original score must be within ten points to permit a recount. Harshan quietly recounts while awaiting a ruling, and notices that Helen ought to have won by 13 points. He offers her the extra points, and she declines. Helen has now clinched second place, and will be Gibsonized.

Joanne beats Vincent 584-310, Theresa beats Craig 429-428. Theresa will play Joanne next and must win to have a chance at fourth.

Division B

Jayne MacKenzie (Eng) continues to steamroll (anagram?) her opponents, beating Peggy Fehily (DEU) 536-276 this round. She is now 27-3 +2904, with a good chance to break +3000 by the end of the day.

Charles Micallef (MLT) is back in the groove, and beat Sue Ball (Eng) 395-386. Catalin Caba (ROM) beat Nicky Huitson (Eng) 371-354, so Charles and Catalin, both at 19-11, will play each other next round.
