Nigel Richards (MYS) and Helen Gipson (Sco) beat Nicky Vella-Laurenti (MLT) and Terry Kirk (Eng) respectively to gain a two-game lead over the 8-4s: Vincent Boyle (Sco), Jojo Delia (MLT) and Joanne Craig (AUS). Nigel has now averaged 511 points per game, and has scored at least 500 in seven of his 12 games so far. His average for the day is 549 points, thanks to three 500+ games and a 4-0 +1023 record. The only other player undefeated today is Raymond Tate (Sco), 4-0 +348.

Mario Saliba (MLT) scored his division's low win so far, 335-269 vs. Christine Strawbridge (MLT).

Likewise in Division B, Jayne MacKenzie (Eng) and Charles Micallef (MLT) beat Ian Kendall (Eng) and Carmen Toscano (Eng) respectively and are now three and two games ahead of four 8-4s: Paul Mifsud (MLT), Mary Doyle (IRL), Annemarie Holland (MLT) and Catalin Caba (ROM).

Division B has four undefeated players today: Charles +534, Paul +504, Jayne MacKenzie (Eng) +494 and Paula Docherty (Eng) +384.

Joe Caruana (MLT) was kicking himself when he returned from lunch at the end of the round, after misreading the schedule. Under WESPA rules, he forfeited a -150 game against Annemarie Holland (MLT), dropping him from 8th to 13th place. The rules also call for Holland to be awarded +150 points for having a missing opponent; this rule is under review and for the purposes of this tournament, players in Holland's position will be awarded only +50 points.

Meanwhile, here's what I've been do each round while the players are racking their brains.

Edit the previous round's annotated game.

Download the game's .gcg file.

Start a Quackle Championship analysis of the game. I wish this could be automated.

Download the last round's photos from my camera.

Photograph the top players.

Finish writing the previous round's commentary.

Print the next round's pairings, if applicable.

Edit the previous round's photos: cull, crop, adjust, resize and caption.

Upload photos to the webserver.

Check the server for macro tagging or other content-building errors.

Upload the Quackle analysis back to the webserver.

Take additional photos of whatever catches my eye.

Do anything else that isn't time-critical: get a drink, go to the bathroom, talk with players, take reference photos of players, check my email.

Take a picture of the final position at Board 1.

Enter scores into my MacBook or iPod Touch.

Print a check sheet of scores and give it to Amy for data verification.

Stretch, repeat.

Any of the above may be interrupted by a call for annotator tech support or a player rules adjudication (if Amy is busy).
