Raymond Tate (Sco) is gleeful about not having to sign a second score slip in a row. This event's score slips have a large space at the bottom for the "Loser's Signature", quite different culturally from what I'm used to in North America, where it's taboo to refer to the non-winner of a game as the loser.

Jackie McLeod (Eng), unsure whether to face Nigel Richards (MYS) sober or drunk, had no trouble defeating him 466-398. She's not saying what she had to drink with dinner, and she's not saying how she's refreshing herself before facing Helen Gipson (Sco) next.

Simon Gillam (Sco) defeats Helen Gipson (Sco) 447-298 at board 1, giving Helen her first loss and sending Jackie to the top of the standings for the first time, 6-1 +568 ahead of Helen's +129. Nigel is in third at 5-2 +1097, Simon in fourth at +489.

Helen and Jackie play at board 1 next to see who will end the first of four days in the lead. At board 2, Nigel plays Simon for third place.
