Amy is called over to Board 2, where Mikki Nicholson (Eng) and Chinedu Okwelogu (NGA) are playing for second place in the annotated game. Mikki has just played COWHEEL#, Chinedu has recorded the score, which under old ABSP rules denotes acceptance of the play and forfeiture of the right to challenge. Under WESPA 1.0 Rules, Chinedu can still challenge, which he does, unsuccessfully. Chinedu goes on to win 395-351.

Theresa Brousson (MLT) is playing Dan Sandu (ROM) nearby at Board 1, for fun and rating points. She beats him 423-353, and will withdraw from the tournament now with a final record of 25-6 +2664.

At Board 3, Mohammad Sulaiman (ARE) manages to beat Helen Gipson (Sco) in their fourth game, 395-372.

At the end of this round, Theresa is 25-6 +2664, Chinedu is 23-8 +1762, Mikki 20-11 +1490, Mohammad +1069. Theresa accepts the first prize plate and EUR 700 graciously, moved by her first major tournament win, even more poignant for its having taken place on her home turf before her friends and family.

We rushed Theresa's award because she had urgent family business to attend to, and need to leave early. As Chinedu was Gibsonized in second place as well, he will play a warmup game against Graham Haigh, who has arrived early for next weekend's Malta International Scrabble Open.

Mikki and Mohammad will compete for third place in the next and final round.

Jojo Delia (MLT) beats Anne Parry (Eng) 573-285 this round, the fifth-highest winning score of the tournament.

Class B is still undecided, with Jayne Mackenzie (Eng) and Ovidiu Tamas (ROM) still tied on wins; Mary Doyle (IRL) has a one-game lead over Geoff Cooper (Eng), Viv Beckmann (Eng) and Albert Zammit (MLT) in C.
