We're back up to 42 players this round, with our missing player back from his sickbed.

At Board 13, John Barker (AUS) (rated 1707) faced Reno Zammit (MLT) (rated 837) and lost 328-357, the second-biggest rating upset after Reno's victory over Simon Gillam (Sco) in Round 1.

There are three remaining contenders: Theresa Brousson (MLT) 23 +616, Chinedu Okwelogu (NGA) 21 +1696 and Mikki Nicholson (Eng) 19 +1605; in fourth place is Helen Gipson (Sco) 18 +841. Theresa has already played Mikki four times, so it's Chinedu's turn to try to unseat her from Board 1; the annotated game shows how close he came (eight points). He'll get one more try next round, but he now has to beat her three games in a row, and by at least 156 points each round.

Mikki fares slightly better against Helen, beating her 397-381 to stay in contention for second place. Mohammad Sulaiman (ARE) rises to fourth place on 18, ahead of Helen and David Delicata (MLT) on spread, and has an outside chance at third place, but has to go through Mikki to get to it.
