Chinedu Okwelogu (NGA) is playing Theresa Brousson (MLT) at Board 1 in the annotated game. He is in a do-or-die situation: he must beat Theresa three times if he hopes to win first place, and he must outscore her by at least 478 points. At Board 2, Mohammad Sulaiman (ARE) is in a similar position, playing Mikki Nicholson (Eng) to keep his hopes of third place alive. Amazingly, Chinedu and Mohammad both win, but Chinedu's win is a close one, 381-411, and so Theresa will be Gibsonized, leaving Mikki and Chinedu to fight for second. Mohammad's win was quite the opposite, 549-462, the highest game total (1011) of the event so far.

Dan Sandu (ROM) has yet another close win, 457-449 over Ovidiu Tamas (ROM). He has now won six games by a total of a mere 74 points, and as the highest Class A player who cannot reach third place, is accorded the honour of being Theresa's next vicitm.

If Chinedu thoroughly beats Mikki twice, it's possible that either Helen Gipson (Sco) or Mohammad Sulaiman (ARE) could sneak into third place. At the end of the round, it's Theresa 24-6 +2594, Chinedu 22-8 +1718, Mikki 20-10 +1534, Mohammad 19-1 +1046 and Helen 19-11 +877.

In Class B, it's still neck and neck between Jayne Mackenzie (Eng) 18-12 +854 and Eileen Meghen (IRL) 18-12 -47 (!); likewise in C, Mary Doyle (IRL) 1416 +453, Viv Beckmann (Eng) -380, Albert Zammit (MLT) -501.
