MISO 2011 Commentary: Round 2

[ ]

Go to: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, Round 4, Round 5, Round 6, Round 7, Round 8, Round 9, Round 10, Round 11, Round 12, Round 13, Round 14, Round 15, Round 16, Round 17, Round 18, Round 19, Round 20, Round 21, Round 22, Round 23, Round 24, After the Tournament.

Round 2 starts three minutes after the ambitious 14:25 start, only 55 minutes after the start of Round 1. Amy continues to run a tight ship, starting people's clocks to get them to come back into the playing room.

In the Open Division, Mikki Nicholson (Eng) and Mario Saliba (MLT) are playing in the annotated game at Board 1. Mario loses a RETAINS+? phoney but plays the rack off two turns later as SNOOTIER, draws the blank and garbage; while Mikki uses the other blank to bingo ETIOlATE, and bingoes three more times naturally.

At the next board, which is being called Board 3 for the next two rounds until the tea break, at which point I will move the board signage so that Board 2 doesn't have to share a table with Board 3 (but Board 17 will have to share with Board 18), it's Terry Kirk (Eng) vs. Eileen Meghen (IRL), and at the board below that, Nicky Huitson (Eng) vs. Chris Keeley (Eng). This round, it's the top quarter of each division against the third, so the spreads should be slightly smaller.

Theresa beats Kevin Synnott (Eng) down at Board 6, 626-329 (!), and now leads Division 1 with a record of 2-0 +564. Behind her is Mikki, who ended up beating Mario 540-300 to get to +443.

Chris Keeley (Eng) and Nicky Huitson (Eng) had a tie game this round, the first in 34 rounds of play this week here in Malta.

In Division B, Margaret Armstrong (Eng) leads the field at 2-0 +290, ahead of Mario Seychell (MLT) +222 and Sammy Mangion (MLT) +193. Margaret beat Mary Doyle (IRL) 445-390; Mario Seychell (MLT) beat Angele Andrews (MLT) 466-423. Eight players remain undefeated.
