In the annotated game at Board 1, it's Evan Cohen (ISR) vs. Jayne Mackenzie (Eng).

As mentioned previously, tsh has detected that the top contenders in Division B have played each other so often that they cannot be paired without repeats, so in this round there will be repeats only at the top of this division.

Boards 2, 3 and 4 look like they started with bingoes: BFLOSUX, AIHNPRS and ACEIORT.

Board 1 turns in a blank result slip. Evan Cohen's (ISR) excuse: "Imagine how hungry we are!" Everyone is starving and blitheringly tired, but surprisingly punctual, with little energy for kibitzing and postmortems. It turns out that Evan has in fact won, beating Jayne Mackenzie (Eng) 450-410 while she out-bingo-ed him 3-2. Mikki Nicholson (Eng) beat Chinedu Nosike Okwelogu (NGA) 462-378, Yi En Gan (DEU) beat Nicky Vella-Laurenti (MLT) 378-344, and Carmel Dodd (AUS) beat Jojo Delia (MLT) 458-436, so the leaders just move up one win higher in lockstep. Evan is 14½-2½ Mikki, Yi En and Carmel 12-5 and Helen Gipson (Sco) 11-6. Still with an outside chance of winning on 10-7 are Theresa Brousson (MLT), Chinedu Nosike Okwelogu (NGA), Terry Kirk (Eng), Raymond Tate (Sco), Kevin Synnott (Eng) and Cecil Muscat (MLT).

Evan has had an excellent day, going undefeated 8½-½ against a strong field including all four players rated higher than him, taking him from being tied for third place only on wins, to having an impressive 2½-game lead over the field.

At the end of this round, Theresa and Helen are tied in scoring: each has scored exactly 7,517 points.

In Division B, Margaret Armstrong (Eng) is one step closer to Gibsonization, and will play only the top players for the rest of the event tomorrow, as she beat Maureen Hoch (ISR) 398-308 while second-place Jim Wilkie (Sco) lost 297-403 to sixth-place Brid Ni Bhriain (IRL), who jumps to third. So Margaret has a four-game lead over Jim, and behind him are five on 11-6: Brid, Geoff Cooper (Eng), Maureen, Albert Zammit (MLT) and Jim Lyes (Eng).

Sammy Mangion (MLT) beats Linda Barratt (Eng) 530-390, the highest combined score we've had since Round 8.

I'm off to look for Nicky Huitson (Eng) and Terry Kirk (Eng) at the bar across the street, and then to dinner at Al Dente with Amy Byrne and Raquelle Azran (ISR). Good night, all!
