Round 9.

Philip Nelkon (Eng) (UK) and Jojo Delia (MLT) (MLT) are battling it out on Table on1 in this round. He played CHIGNON to block Jojo's arsenal of two blanks, but in his efforts to block missed NOTCHING through the same I. In spite of that Philip still won!

The non-players in the hall are probably working as hard as the players! John Chew has been running the software and inputing all the data in his quiet and efficient style. John is one of the few males I know who can truly multi-task - he can chat to you about the weather and still continue to input data like a pianist! The other group working really hard are the annotators for the game being played on Table 1. It requires an annotator for each player plus two more to put the words into the computers - four in all. They are Margi, Laurence, Christine and Monica - all non players of Scrabble and doing a great job in spite of their inexperience. In addition, Norma, a girl scout from a local Scout group has kindly volunteered to 'run' errands and supply score sheets etc for the day - she is also doing a great job. Last but least yours truly, the Tournament Director is finding life much more busy than he expected - he thought he could just boss everybody about and then sit around lazing - no such luck!
