Round 10.

After this round we will be half way through the tournament - how time flies! Phil Robertshaw (Eng) and Jojo Delia (MLT) are doing battle on Table 1. Phil finally managed to pull ahead when he got both the blanks and played JETLAGS. Jojo replied with DEADENS and then Phil played SOULDIER as a 9Xer and swept ahead again. Jojo then played SALVOING, but it was not sufficient to win - a really hard fought game with Phil triumphing in the end.

In round 8 we had our first draw of the Tournament with Mike O'Rourke (Eng) and Chris Keeley (Eng) both scoring 383. At the end of the day, that half point can place one ahead of a whole raft of players in spite of having an inferior spread - on the other hand they might find themselves rueing the fact they could not squeeze another half point, especially if they finish with a very healthy positive spread. That's Scrabble for you.

The higher rated players in the Tournament are beginning to establish themselves at the top of the leader board. Philip Nelkon (Eng) is lying 1st with 7-2 games and a spread of 1182, David Webb (Eng) is 2nd also with 7-2 and a spread of 924 and Jared Robinson (Eng) is 3rd, also with 7-2 and a spread of 910. The highest Maltese players are Theresa Brousson (MLT) in 5th place and Jojo Delia (MLT) in 6th, both with 7-2 game score.
