Round 19

Imagine doing a running commentary for a really long Tournament like the Causeway, or The Worlds with 40-50 odd games, i.e., double the number of this tournament! Finding something interesting and original about every round is becoming increasingly difficult as each round is beginning to merge with the next! The familiar sound of tiles rattling in the tile bags, the scraping of chairs on the floor when players go to the self-adjudication computers is either going to become music in some peoples ears or as bad as chalk scraping down a blackboard!

Simon Rosenstone (Eng), our visually impaired player is valiantly playing on, in spite of not managing to win a game, although he is very pleased to have played 3 bonuses during the Tourney. He has told me he is very keen to try out a Casino in the hope that he has a little more luck than in the Scrabble hall here. The players have been sponsoring Simon for his upcoming Parachute jump in the UK for the Leonard Cheshire Disability charity.

On Table 1, David Webb (Eng) is playing Theresa Brousson (MLT). Theresa got off to a good start with a bonus: COURBED for 80, however David immediately countered with another bonus : ENCAENIA through Theresas E. Theresa pulled ahead by more than 100 points until David hauled her in with OeSTRINS for 74. A couple of moves later David played: ANERGIAS for 83, and went ahead. Theresa was unable to fight back as she had picked 5 Es out of the bag and had to change, although she kept a blank and an S. Theresa then played tULWARS for 77 and went ahead again. The end game was very tight but Theresa finally won 460-395

(John Chew) David began this round needing to win one of his two remaining games to be the champion, and after losing this round needs to win the final round or risk finishing as low as third. Lukeman Owolabi (NGA) needed to win both his last games, and after beating Chris Keeley (Eng) also needs to win his last to finish first. Theresa needed to win against David and have Chris beat Lukeman, so she can't win the tournament, but has a very good chance at second or third place.
