Back from lunch now, it's the undefeated Komol Panyasophonlert (THA) against early leader Siu Hean Cheah (SGP) at Board 1. Komol wins 501-464 and stays at Board 1. Cheah's spread is knocked back into the triple digits, and at 6-2 +979 he has a healthy lead over the rest of his flight, behind the two 7-1 players, Chollapat Itthi-aree (THA) and Charnrit Khongthanarat (THA).

At Board 5, Thanapong Kukiettikulchai (THA) scores 491 against Odette Carmina Rio (PHL) to lose by eight points.

After this round, I go upstairs with Amnuay to Royal Paragon Hall to check out how setup is going for the weekend's main event. Workers have been busy since yesterday putting up violet bunting for a visit by our royal patron, along with the ubiquitous green Brand's boxes. There are banners advertising all the different brain events: Sudoku, A-Math, Thai and English versions of the crossword game, crossword puzzle solving, trivia, and many more. We're using up all the available convention centre space here, and it looks like they're expecting between five and ten thousand players.
