As we were starting, I received email from Alastair Richards (AUS) saying that his mother, Karen Richards (AUS) was unwell and unable to play today; I was able to redo the pairings to eliminate the originally schedule bye before play began.

As I was walking to the far corner of the riser to look after yet another broken tile call, Liz Fagerlund (NZL) flagged me down to point out Michael Tang's (SGP) triple-triple PRIZEMEN (230). Tang went on to bingo-bango out for a 675-338 win.

Amnuay Ploysangngam (THA) was busy with tournament work and missed his game against Tanasak Suphaphibunkun (THA) this round. At first I gave them both forfeits, because I didn't see Tanasak either until the clock ticked down and the forfeit was posted. I apologize for the apparently great concern I caused him.

Komol Panyasophonlert (THA) loses 412-503 to Thacha Koowirat (THA) at Board 1, the first time at this event that he has lost to anyone other than Charnwit Sukhumrattanaporn (THA). Thacha opened with the bingo FLARIER, then played two more over the rest of the game: DEnOTeS MERIDIAN; Komol got down three as well (FARINOSE AVENGERS URALITES), but it wasn't enough. Siu Hean Cheah (SGP) has a 602-326 blowout win over Jakkrit Klaphajone (THA) and moves to second place, two games behind Komol and ahead of Thacha by 1100 points of spread. Behind them now by another game are Odette Carmina Rio (PHL) and Charnrit Khongthanarat (THA), both winners this round.
