The Chamber of Commerce of the Town of Shediac is sponsoring its third annual sanctioned SCRABBLE tournament this year, to celebrate the birthplace of the earliest known crossword board game. All events to be directed by John Chew.

Tournament Details

All competition takes place at the École Louis-J.-Robichaud (High School), 435 Main Street, Shediac, NB. Lost or late? Call John Chew at (416) 876–7675.

Main Event
Friday, September 28th ~ Sunday, September 30th

Clocks start at 7:00 P.M. Friday, 9:30 A.M. Saturday & Sunday.
You pay:
  • CA$125 (U.S. residents may pay US$90)
  • $20 walk-in fee if not preregistered
You get:
  • 15 rounds of rated SCRABBLE play
  • Coffee, tea and snacks throughout
  • lobster dinner (alternatives available) on Saturday night
  • A prize pool that starts at $1,500 and goes up by $90 per competitor, prorated between the TWL and CSW divisions.
Format: NASPA-rated, 15 rounds plus 2-round final, 2 open divisions (TWL and CSW lexicon). Minimum attendance in each division: 4 players. Chew Pairings, Gibson rule in effect.

Clocks will be started promptly to maintain the above schedule, and any player who misses a scheduled game may be removed from subsequent pairings until they return and the next pairings are calculated.

Travel Notes

The nearest airport to Shediac is Moncton (YQM), with connections to Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal; it is a 21-minute drive from the tournament site.

We have a small block of rooms held at the Hotel Shediac available for booking until two weeks before the event at C$129 + tax. To obtain it, please call the hotel directly at +1 855 836 6100 or +1 506 532 6100. There are several other hotels, and many bed-and-breakfasts available in town nearby.

Send your entry fees (see above for calculation) to John Chew by September 26, 2018. Cash, cheque, money order, INTERAC are fine; credit cards and Paypal are not. Please include your name, telephone number, address, valid NASPA membership number (unless this is your first tournament) and preferred division.
