SCRABBLE
Something else I do for fun and profit. I am the director of the Toronto Scrabble Club, the webmaster of the National Scrabble Association, a member of the NSA's Dictionary and Ratings committees, and will likely direct or work in some other significant capacity at ten tournaments in 2003, including the All*Stars, Canadian Championship and the Mike Wise Memorial (the 24th annual Toronto tournament). I also maintain a links page to various Scrabble resource that I maintain, such as the list of Canadian player rankings, any word list I've been asked to compile, annotated games, tournament forms, advice for directors, etc.
web design
Still more fun and profit. All of the links from this page take you to sites I have lovingly hand-crafted out of raw Perl and HTML since 1991.
rectangular diagram
It's a puzzle, related to MSc research I did under the late John Wilker. Ask me about it in person sometime.

The first fifty decimal digits of pi, as a tribute to an adolescence spent running the University of Toronto Schools Pi and Other Mathematical Constants Memorization Club, membership in which was restricted to students who could recite at least that many. I once won a frozen blueberry pie for reciting 625 digits of pi to win a school contest.

J J J...
The initials of the members of my genealogical line. I maintain a large genealogical database, based on research begun by my grandfather.
My contact information
See also my press info. If you need to reach me urgently, call me on my cellphone, preferably from a Caller-ID-able line, between 10:00 A.M. and 10:00 P.M. Eastern time. If it's less urgent, send me e-mail, and if it's your first time writing to me make sure you include a Subject: line that distinguishes you from spam. (Good: "Toronto Scrabble Club info wanted". Bad: "Your details")
My name in Japanese
I am a native speaker of Japanese and English. I speak some French, German and Spanish. My Latin and Greek are rusty. I will read Russian and Chinese with a dictionary and some difficulty.

The background photo is of a large, wild, black cherry tree north of Toronto. A good number of my event-specific photos and more artistic efforts are available online.
